Case Study: Sonoma County 4h
Bill Grey, from Grey Visual Design (http://greyvisual.com) in Santa Rosa California emailed us needing help converting his Photoshop designs into Web sites. He is mainly a “print” guy, but as part of his business he also sells websites to his clients. They were starting to get “backed up” and needed us to swoop in and help them catch up.
One client, The Sonoma County 4H, needed a big image rotator, and two custom sub-loops to generate dynamic content on the homepage. Bill wasn’t sure if this was possible in Wordpress – but we assured him it was and turned out an exact replica of his Photoshop PSD.
Not only did we turn this around quickly (and accurately) we have formed a great business-to-business relationship with Grey Visual Design and we are first on the short list of capable designers they call on when they need someone to save the day.
Case Study: John is Fit | JohnIsFit.com
John is a fitness blogger and came to me after he hired a graphic designer to create a very graphically intense PSD/Wireframe.
The challenge here was to recreate the “Post-It Note” type navigation, the top-right image of John (code name: The Mascot) to appear to hover over the top-right content. He also needed three “Widgetized Tabs” underneath top-right ad space, random post links, a completely made-over comment section, ad spaces below each posts, and several extra Widget spaces.
Utilizing jQuery for “The Tabs, z-index properties for “The Mascot”, Thesis Hooks, and over 1,000 lines of .CSS code we were able to accomplish a direct reflection of his original PSD/Wireframe. We also created an Internet Explorer only style-sheet to aid with the positioning of The Mascot and to ensure his blog would render correctly in IE.
Since John is a blogger, (and not a Web Designer), he has been gracious enough to allow me to show his Case Study in my Portfolio. You can read his (unsolicited) review of my work on his blog.
Case Study: Thesis Skin – The Times
The challenge here was to create a visually striking Thesis Skin for websites or blogs whose main focus is on delivering stories in a crisp concise manner – without any HTML programming knowledge; all while running on the Thesis Framework.
The result of over 200 hours of programming, Greg Rickaby dESIGN is proud to offer the very FIRST Ultra-Premium Thesis Skin available to the public. It features:
- Robust Custom Options Panel (control this skin with a point and a click interface)
- Both Text and / or Image Logo Capabilities
- Featured Content Slider (with Video Capabilities)
- 26 Total Widgets
- 15 Homepage Widget Positions (Module Positions)
- 6 Advertisement Spaces (in Widget form)
- 5 Footer Columns (in Widget form)
- 8 Category Specific Teaser boxes on the Homepage
- Special Site-Wide “Breaking News” Box
- 4 Different Color Schemes
- jQuery “Drop-Line” Category Main Navigation
- jQuery “Tabbed” Module (with 3 widgets!)
- jQuery “Accordion” Module (with 4 widgets!)

How is it ultra-premium? For starters, it’s much more than just another skin. It’s a full-featured child-framework that took over 200 hours to program. The Times takes Thesis to the next level, all while giving you total control over the look and feel. PLUS with a kick-ass options panel; HTML/CSS/PHP knowledge is NOT required to get this skin up and running.
