10 signs you’re a web design hack

I can’t stand assholes who ruin it for the rest of us. I work my tail off learning, promoting, and honing my skills as a Freelance Web Designer…and some douches just deserve a good flogging…

fail-owned-website-fail

10. You use a self-appointed adjective in your domain name
9. You use the same self-appointed adjective to describe your “deals”
8. You don’t return phone calls
7. Your first name takes up 975×250 pixels of your header image
6. Your self-portrait photo has the warm glow of a 19 inch CRT monitor for lighting
5. You have no idea how to create anything original, so every one of your “new” blogs look strikingly similar to your previous blog
mad-photoshop-skills4. You pretend to “blog” about industry news…but really, you are just keyword stuffing
3. Your Photoshop skills rival that of my 4 year old
2. You spam Twitter telling everyone how great your self-appointed adjective describing deals are using every #webdesign hash known to man, instead of letting it spread virally

AND THE #1 SIGN YOU’RE A WEB DESIGN HACK:

1. You tweet your price list, but instead of link to your blog – its a poorly formatted (right justified) Google document

If this pisses you off…good. You’re giving us real freelancers a bad name. Now go learn how to use Photoshop!

(thanks to failblog.org for the pic – and my four year old for allowing me to use his skills to compare and contrast)

This is hilarious. I am total Newbie to coding and bought Thesis as a framework in May to begin learning how to customize my site and blog about my personal interests. I sure as hell hope I don't fall into this douche-bag category. All of my thesis customizations have been learned from either you, @Matt425, @mattonomics, @godhammer or @girliegeek.

Either way, thought it was a funny article, even if I fall into the “hack” category. One thing I do NOT do is spam twitter broadcasting that I am some sort of expert by any means.

If you have decided that you need a good website for your business, the next step is to decide who should create it. This decision is one that needs a lot of attention because if on the one hand, a well-organized and attractive web design can help you tremendously in making more money; on the other hand, a poorly designed website can cost you money, drive away customers, and can hurt your company reputation. Following are the few basic steps you need to keep in mind, while choosing a Web Design Company
